Story Line Empty Re: Story Line

Sun Aug 05, 2018 10:59 pm
I opened the door to the grand ballroom of the lusitania. One of the most luxurious cruise ships in the world. The cathedral ceilings, crystal chandeliers and eloquent centerpieces took my breath away. Even as someone used to and normally underwhelmed by such decadence. I quickly scanned the room for people of interest, and my target, as I walked forward. Stopping several times for pleasantries with acquaintances of my family. Smiling and charming I proceeded, growing increasingly frustrated as I failed to spot my mark. I took a spot at the end of the bar and ordered a gin and tonic to keep me busy as I scanned the room.
At the other end of the bar sat a curly haired red head, with a hairstyle that highlighted her implant. New status if you've ever seen it. She was keeping casual and friendly with everyone around her but had a look in her eyes that spelled trouble. Always be wary of a girl that seduces the bartender, and her drinks were coming faster than they could be bought for her.
Across the room there was a 6'3 guy with sky blue eyes. Nothing about him would normally stick out, except I was left with a different impression every other time i saw him...
Otherwise a prominent police captain and the usual troublesome elite were present, but my focus narrowed as I saw my fathers rival shaking hands at a table.

Story Line Empty Hunting

Sat Aug 11, 2018 12:51 pm
My God Sky, this woman is still talking...
I huffed irately as the frivolous woman beside me continued to chortle on and on about her husband's illustrious state of affairs and business acumen. It amazed me that even in a world of psychics, people were still oblivious to the dispositions of others.
"Do I look amused? Am I even responding point for point with supplementary banter? Is the desperation to escape you even shining in my eye anymore? Or has the weariness of your juxtaposed existence exhausted even that?"
Um Sky...you said that out loud.
The woman's eyes teared and her bottom lip quivered.
Don't make a scene....
Her makeup stained cheeks billowed like a frog's.
She is definitely going to make a scene Sky.
I grabbed her shoulder and forced her eyes to meet mine.
"You were just telling me about how you were leaving to sample each of the resort's featured wine coolers. You are off to have a great day.
Her eyes went from puffy and red to blank to elation in a single second before she skipped away happily.
Sky! You're going to alert a Therapist!
Skye, I touched her directly, I released no Psionic oscillations, I know what I'm doing. No one will know.
You could have just complimented her and then excused yourself to the bathroom before losing yourself in the crowd like everyone else does for unwanted conversational assaults and- Sky, someone is looking at you.
Across from me, a rather arrogant looking man scanned the crowd and for a brief moment our eyes made direct contact before his settled on a red haired woman at the bar. His eyes were too sharp, too deliberate, that it was clear he was looking for someone.
Sky, I'm not really registering any electromagnetic distortions around that guy, he might be a Psiblade.
I hated Psiblades, the nature of their power made them difficult to control. I needed more information about him, the fact that he still demonstrated sch lucidity in his eyes at a party like this...he clearly had something else on his agenda as did I, but how to learn more about him...
Duh Sky, use the surefire way of dealing with men. Make use of nubile females.
My eyes scanned back towards the woman at the bar. How do you know she is nubile?
Bitch has red hair.
This is true. Very well Skye, I'll establish a link with her and then use her to get information out of that man. He looks dangerous.
He looks dangerous? Wait til you check out red.
I slipped through the crowd until I came to stand beside the red head, there were no vacant seats beside her, well not at the current moment. I brushed arms with the man sitting beside her.
Your bladder is nearly ready to explode.
The guy shot up, nearly spilling red's drink before fleeing to the bathroom.
I leaned across the bar and looked over at her.
"Is this seat taken?"

I smiled and exchanged small banter with one of the men seated next to me, barely remember the words I said as they left my mouth. Whatever I was saying seemed to enthrall him. Or maybe it was the generous cleavage I was showing in order to avoid having to actually hold a conversation. I was too focused on finding Aya's parents in the crowd. So far I'd only spotted two of my patients, each of them drinking much more alcohol than recommended for the various medications they were on. I made a mental note to chastise each of them at their next sessions.
After finally laying my eyes on Aya's father attempting to seduce a younger woman, the man I'd been speaking to shot up from his seat and was replaced by another person. My eyes glanced toward him as he asked if the seat was taken, and I was caught off guard by striking blue eyes. The barriers I'd carefully placed around my mind dropped for a moment due to the distraction, and I felt a flood of drunken emotions hit me. I barely stopped myself from flinching before noticing the strong feeling of intent coming off the man next to me. Deciding to let the barriers stay down, I turned all of my attention to the newcomer, focusing my mind on him. This could be interesting.
"Not anymore." I stated, smiling. "And you are?"

As the dangerous looking stranger sat next to the redhead at the bar my fathers enemy brushed past me.
All in all he was probably one of the better politicians I've met to be honest. Shady on the normal issues but firm on the ones he cared about. Bribes were reasonable and more of a means to get your point heard than anything else. Unfortunately for him he was firm on the wrong issues as of late. My opinion of that doesn't matter. I quickly caught up with him to say hello. Making it clear I rushed to catch up to him but not enough to be out of breath or unseemly. I wiped a loose strand of black hair from my forehead and introduced myself.
"Hello Mr. Tanaki, its great to see you here!" I blurted out. Hi Reo, I didn't expect to see you here.
"Still giving your old man false hope I see. Unless you've stopped working at the hospital recently?"
"Of course not Mr. Tanaki sir" I smiled. "but I'm actually here of my own accord for once." I replied.
"oh?" he replied starting to realize this was more than just a polite hello.
I took a step across to his other side where we could speak more comfortably in the crowded space. "You see sir, The ward I work in has been somewhat underfunded lately. the demand for newer implants was too much to ignore but the hospitals margins haven't caught up with insurance yet. The amount available through insurance have already been given out for the month." I paused. " I guess I'm just trying to make a few receptive gentlemen aware, if I can."
He narrowed his eyes a little as if he was seeing me for the first time. "Maybe we'll speak later Reo, I can see how this might not be an easy issue for your father to uhm help with."
He gave me firm look I couldn't quite place, quickly shook my hand and walked away. I was concerned I scared him off until he inched the checkbook from his pocket, and glanced back over his shoulder to make sure I noticed. Real charity doesn't happen in public, and Tanaki would help me on his own terms later.
At least he thought he would.
Luckily Tanaki's implants were on his hands like mine or his sudden departure could of ruined it. But between my greeting and his handshake to leave I had just enough time to cut off the necessary psionic connections. He wont be powerless or senseless, but he'll be as good as blind to any psionic disruption going on dead ahead of him.
Tanaki knew my father would never help with anything that didn't benefit him, and was self-aware that he was one of the few elite who might. As long as I approached a few similar people publicly, no one would have a clue on how he missed the attack later.
I didn't expect to find him this early though, so I headed back to the bar for a drink...

Story Line Empty Drunk on the job

Wed Sep 05, 2018 3:53 pm
As she flashed me a smile, the sobriety of her thoughts took a drastic shift from lucidity and I got swept up into it.
"Sss ky." My...name slluurred.
Tch. Lightweight. Stop being such an amateur, Sky. You slipped into her thoughts way too easily, she is totally fucking with you.
"Xquuze me. Nayme is Sky." I said slough and steaddilee.
Go home, you're drunk.
My hand slipped over the woman's hand intimately and I flashed a smile. "Sorry, my recent proclivities have relegated me to a straight laced life, I feel like my tolerance has gone from stalwart to Roofie here. I'm Skye, pleasure is mine Miss Pie-"
I coughed into my hand politely, nearly having revealed I was snooping through the diary of her mind.
I noticed that the attractive and well built man from before was making his way over to us and I arched a brow.
Jealousy? Fret not, I'm not against getting a room for four.
I waited for Prim Pierce to tell me her name of her own volition while I allowed my mind's eye to scan the room for why I was really here.
Vivienne Velestia. Pharmaceutical Head of Transcendence, a branch of that woman's many industrial pursuits. I was going to destroy them all, one after the other until her world came crashing down on top of her. Amidst the confines of desperately trapped within the wreckage of a severed elevator life. I would kill her myself.
I requested drinks for three. "Cheers."

"Cheers." I repeated, taking note of the near slip of Skye's tongue. "Lovely to meet you, I'm Prim." I leaned back against the bar, facing the crowd of drunken elites again. Aya's father and the young woman seemed to have disappeared. They'd likely be in the coat room by now, fucking mindlessly until the old man's Viagra wore off.
"So what brings you here, Skye?" I asked, sipping from my drink. Not that I needed much alcohol amidst the drunk emotions that were currently flooding my mind. "You don't seem so terribly interested in kissing political ass, like everyone else in the crowd, otherwise you wouldn't be talking to me."

Story Line Empty Re: Story Line

Fri Sep 21, 2018 9:32 am
I was surprised by how quickly I relaxed.
I lent my my face to my hands and physically felt some of the past weeks stress begin to dissipate. The frustration of the days before sat like a small lump between my eyes that I massaged away while waiting for the next drink to come.

Fuck it. I thought as the lump began todwindle. "How about a round?". It had really been so long since I'd finished a job this easily.

And my drinks were doing their job of course. I was still paying attention to the room, making sure nothing was off. But i could finally relax myself with a bit of comfort at the bar.

Another round it is.

I slid another drink each, to the man I'd learned went by Sky, and the still nameless women to my left.
As I handed off each I did something subtle, and I placed a small psionic buffer on them both. As each of our fingers grazed and they took their drinks I worked my powers, finding a social comfort that often escaped me when liquor wasnt involved.
It wasnt enough to hinder either of their powers themselves, whatever they'd be. Just a pair of weak earplugs or sunglasses if you will, to shield the glare
from the powers of those around them. They'd been inconsistent in their drinking and their attention. Their intoxication seeming to ebb and flow at will throughout my stay at the overstuffed barstools. It was common among the more cerebral psions to be overwhelmed in a place like this. And I was confident betting on it being the case with them. With so many people. So many people with barely any control of themselves. It's a wonder empaths ever went outside at all in my opinion.
What I did wasn't rude or intrusive persay. They'd notice right away and I saw them each relax a bit as I did it. As if they each had their own small ball of frustration, akin to mine, now slowly being massaged away autonomously.
But it was somewhat... intimate. A presumptive gesture I'd normally avoid in a place like this. Less than a hug, but much more than a handshake.
I was never much for idle chatter. But where the liquor failed to loosen my lips, i had acquiesced myself out of sobriety all the same. Alcohol tolerance was never an art I'd managed to claim.

They were both looking at me. A raised eyebrow each, almost comical in their synchronicity. Socially lubricated as I was I stifled a chuckle, and suddenly realized how tense they had both been as well. I think I might be the only of us actually relaxing here.

I may have relaxed too much.
I certainly may have drank too much.
And I suddenly wished I hadn't finished my task quite so early and gotten myself trapped with these strangers at the bar.

"I'd drink to a little ass kissing." I tilted my brow lascivously at Prim before accepting the drink offer.
His fingers brushed mine and I felt a lightness steal over me. Something about the way our fingers acquiesced, but q subtle intimation yet my entire body relaxed into the touch. Maybe the alcohol was finally pooling in all my right regions or...
I learned closer to the man but he just seemed so mysterious or maybe at the back of my addled thoughts unreadable with my telepathy but as those eyes simmered I realized that no, he was just oh so mysterious. I let his touch linger longer, enjoying the calm that stole over me.
Skye. Knock it off. You're embarrassing us both. Cant you recognize a psionic blocker when-
Ugh Sky. You're a total Psyblock.
Get on the mission or give me our body back.
Relax. As soon as the MC begins announcing the festivities, I'll detach from these two and make a fake charity proposition with the target and then implant a small suggestion in her.
I wouldn't admit to him that the attractive gentleman beside me was hardly a smokescreen.
I heard that Skye.
"My company insists I attend galas like this. I'm just here to drink a little booze, savor a little good food, and spend as much money as my company will allow compensation. I'm rather ordinary." I flashed a smile.
